Get Familiar with Three29Design.com (Interview)

Artists, Producers, Businesses, etc. all need quality graphic design & web work done, So I figured why not introduce one of my graphic designer’s, Livia Lucie (Three29Design.com) to the world! Livia created my last mixtape
cover for Beat Kings Pt.1 & has done artwork for Wordsmith, Harmony Muzik, Effie, & others!

Livia, please introduce yourself :

Aloha! I’m Livia Lucie, I’m 20 years young and from the, not so sunny, UK. I’m a self taught graphic designer and I set up my own design business, three29design, in September 2009. I started design by working within the music industry but I’m now branching out, especially when it comes to working with local businesses.

How did you become involved in Graphic & Web design?

I always said I’d never have an office job but things change. I originally had planned to train to be an officer in the Royal Artillery but things didn’t work out for me. I used to enjoy messing around on photoshop after I found the program in my dads office. I’d spend hours just clicking around, creating things and teaching myself the program until one day someone asked ‘how much for a…?’ The thought of creating an income from design had never crossed my mind before.

Where do you draw your inspiration from when working on a project?

Inspiration comes from so many different places. Music plays a big part of it, especially as I tend to listen to a clients music if available so that I can get a feel of their style. I also draw inspiration from life in general, things I’m interested in, hobbies, friends and so on.

What is your favorite part of doing Graphic & Web design work?

I love being able to just be creative as a job! Especially on the projects that are different to most, which make me learn and try out new things. It’s a job down, a happy customer and more knowledge learned.

Who is your primary clientele?

I work mainly within the music industry, whether it’s for record labels, producers, artists or DJs but I’m also branching out to local businesses more and more.

Does Twitter & other social networking sites help your business?

Everything started for me through Myspace but now that’s pretty much dead and buried Facebook and Twitter play the biggest part. It keeps you connected with previous clients as well as establishing a connection with potential clients. Twitter especially helps you to show the person behind the business as well which is important otherwise things could get boring.

What was your favorite project you’ve worked on to date, and why?

To this day I still love the project I did for To The Republic. The thing that makes it stand out the most for me is that it’s for a rock band, which was very different to the hip hop based work I was used to doing. They wanted something very different to my usual work, which made me step out of my comfort zone and think outside the box. It had me biting my nails at first but everything turned out great!

What is the most challenging part of your work?

I always find when people come to you with no real brief and just say to do whatever I think will work is soooooo hard. There’s nothing to go from and nothing specific to work towards. It can make your mind run wild but there’s a big chance of the client not liking it if you do that. Oh, and deadlines that creep up on you!

Have you ever done work for anyone famous?

No A-Lists but maybe some B-list celebs 😉 I’ve had enquiries from celebrities before but the problem is they expect things for free due to the exposure you will get. In my opinion, the majority of the time, exposure isn’t a form of payment, it may work out great and bring me loads of clients or it may do nothing at all. It won’t guarantee to pay my bills.

What seperates Three 29 Design from other graphic design companies?

My work is very young blooded, I’m extremely motivated, completely self taught and have high hopes for the future! I’m also super friendly 🙂
